New for 2014

The 2014 Payak event will take place over 2 days in order to accommodate BC Winter Games at Whistler Olympic Park next year. The loppet events will remain on the Saturday (Feb 22nd) and the kids’ tournament and youth ski cross will be on the Sunday (Feb 23rd). Check back for news about pre-registration, the WOP season pass draw for pre-registrations to the event and more great prizes and updates for 2014.

The Sigge’s Payak is growing, but the parking lots are not, especially with all this snow! Therefore, in order to help reduce the number of vehicles entering the venue, and other good things like keep greenhouse gas out of the atmosphere, event organizers are providing you with two alternatives to climbing into your ride to drive alone to the site. Please help us keep costs down by taking the bus or sharing a ride to the venue.

First – a 52 window limo! Yup, a bus! The bus will cost you $32 total, has three pickup points, will get you to the venue at 8:30 am, and back to Vancouver by 6 pm. Click here to register. Schedule & pickup locations are shown below.

Second – Carpool. Yup, share a ride, share the gas, meet new skier friends. We’ve created a free listing service for those who want to hook up and ride up together. Click here for more information and to register.

Bus Schedule (subject to change)

Departing Vancouver
6:00 a.m.	Boundary at Lougheed, Vancouver
6:15 a.m.	Sigge’s, 2077 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
6:50 a.m.	Church at Taylor Way and Upper Levels Highway, West Vancouver
8:30 a.m.	Arrive Whistler Olympic Park (estimated)
Departing Whistler Olympic Park
3:30 p.m.	Depart Whistler Olympic Park
6:00 p.m.	Boundary at Lougheed (drop-offs are the same as above but in reverse order)

Please arrive at the location that you have selected at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time above. The bus will not wait for latecomers!

Note, the Boundary at Lougheed pickup is in front of the McDonald’s on the west side of Boundary at the marked bus stop. There is car parking on 4th Avenue. Avoid parking in the church parking lot near Taylor Way since the church does tow. There should be parking on nearby side streets.

This bus service is guaranteed to run regardless of numbers. If you are unsure of your plans, choose a professional driver, save gas, reduce space in the parking lots, and get on the magic bus!

50km for Friends

One Payak skier will be doing the 50km race in memory of 2 friends who lost their battles with cancer. She is collecting donations to Callanish Society, a local non-profit, registered organization providing retreats for people living with cancer and their families. After facing cancer several times herself, this skier knows the immense support that Callanish provides on an ongoing basis.
